BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Before you improvise

Can I start if I've never improvised?+

Yes. The method starts with simple gestures: a few chords on the left and two or three notes on the right. Pianolia shows the keys and gives examples to hear. Move slowly, one hand at a time, then create your own variations.

Do I need to know all the theory?+

Start without knowing everything. The method introduces useful chords and notes by listening and playing. Build your bearings through practice, then enrich your playing at your pace.

Do I need a MIDI keyboard?+

No. Listen and watch the notes in your browser, then try them on your piano. A MIDI keyboard can also show played keys in the workshop.

Can I listen to the hands separately?+

Yes. Listen to the accompaniment and melodic example separately. Everyone progresses at their own pace, one hand after the other.

Where are my improvisations saved?+

Your exercises are saved in your browser on this device. Find them in “My improvisations”. You can also export an exercise as MIDI to keep its music.
