UNDERSTANDING YOUR BROWSER
Cookies and local storage
Pianolia remembers your pieces and settings so you can find them again. Here is the storage used and how to clear it.

What the workshop uses
Browser storage is not limited to cookies. Pianolia uses local mechanisms for the features you request:
- Projects and history: local mode keeps pieces and exercises in IndexedDB. The connected workshop loads them from the account's private library; older local copies stay on the device until deleted.
- Account sign-in: the secure session cookie, restricted to the API and inaccessible to page scripts, keeps you signed in for up to thirty days. Signing out invalidates this session. The secure sign-in cookie links a sign-in attempt to its browser for up to ten minutes. Cognito and Google sign-in pages also use their own cookies.
- Preferences and resuming: local storage (localStorage) remembers the active project, settings and information for resuming an analysis task.
- Workshop cache: the service worker and browser cache may keep resources needed to load the app. This cache does not replace a backup of your projects.
These mechanisms serve the workshop's operation. Google Analytics 4 may measure visits and workshop openings only after your consent. No advertising tool or social-network pixel is added.
Any technical cookies set by the hosting platform or its access protection remain to be confirmed: [ACTUAL NAMES, PURPOSES, PROVIDERS AND LIFETIMES OF INFRASTRUCTURE COOKIES]. This page therefore does not claim that no cookies are used by the entire infrastructure.
Automatic language selection
Without a manual choice, Pianolia uses French if the browser's primary language is French or the detected country is France; otherwise, it uses English. For a non-French browser, a request to Country (api.country.is) estimates the country from the IP address. This request includes no cookies, page URL, project files or content. Pianolia keeps only the country code, not the IP address, and does not request GPS location.
The country code is reused for one hour in the tab’s session storage. After a failed lookup, another attempt is deferred for five minutes. Your manual FR/EN choice is remembered separately and always takes priority.

Choosing analytics
When analytics is configured, a banner lets you accept or reject Google Analytics equally easily. Before consent, no Google Tag Manager container or Google Analytics script is loaded and no measurement data is sent to it. The “Cookies” button on each page lets you change your choice at any time. Rejecting does not limit access to the site.
Your choice is stored for six months in local storage. If you accept, Analytics tags configured in Google Tag Manager use the cookies _ga and _ga_…, configured for 180 days without automatic extension. Withdrawing consent blocks collection and removes Analytics cookies accessible to the site; it does not delete data already received by Google.
Events added by Pianolia measure page and screen views, clicks and their locations, settings used, import steps and exports, without files, piece titles, URL parameters or entered content. Advertising personalisation and Google Signals are disabled in the tag. Google may process technical connection data; see Google's privacy policy and our privacy policy.
Retention period
Local data may remain on your device between visits until you delete it or the browser clears it. Private mode, storage limits or device settings may reduce that period. Local history is not guaranteed backup storage.
Retention periods and categories of any data processed on a server are addressed separately in the privacy policy.
Clearing data or blocking storage
- First export projects you want to keep.
- In the workshop, use the library and permanent deletion from the bin to remove a project. A project only moved to the bin remains stored.
- To remove all local storage, open your browser settings and clear Pianolia site data: local storage, databases and associated caches.
- If needed, also revoke microphone or MIDI device permissions in site settings.
Blocking storage may prevent saving or resuming your work. Local deletion removes neither downloaded exports nor any server data; the latter follows the arrangements in the privacy policy.
